McKinsey’s three-horizon strategic model is an efficient tool to help organizations segregate their goals, activities, and plans into three segments to be more effective. Companies use this framework to achieve both long-term and short-term goals by allocating their resources in a well-planned way. The three horizons, according to this framework, are:

• Horizon 1 (1 to 3 years): During this time, the focus should be on the existing products, and the company should not spend much on expansion rather than the betterment of existing resources. 
• Horizon 2 (3 to 5 years): This horizon is about nurturing the emerging business. During this time, the company will focus on reaching new markets and developing more targeted products that have the potential for growth over time. 
• Horizon 3 (5+ years): In this part, the company should start entirely new plans for transforming the business. It may include starting a new project or business venture.
