Envelope

An envelope is a container for something which is folded over and sealed shut at one or both ends, usually to hold letters or other small objects. The word envelope originally referred to a container made for holding a single sheet of paper folded once to make a writing surface with an opening in one end through which a quill could poke. At the other end was a compartment for letter or other small objects meant to be mailed.
