The “labyrinth of the ear” is another name given to the inner part of the human ear. This part of the ear contains the senses for hearing and balance or equilibrium. A cavity in the temporal bone called “bony labyrinth” is divided into 3 parts; the vestibule, the semicircular canals and the cochlea. Inside the bony labyrinth is the membranous labyrinth. It is also divided into 3 sections; the semicircular ducts, the saccule and utricle and the cochlear duct. The cochlear duct is the part of the ear responsible in hearing.
