The Recognition-primed Decision (RPD) Process Template for complex decision-making model provides slides of flowcharts and process-flow diagrams. This comprehensive template is suitable for guiding people on how to make decisions in difficult situations. The RPD diagram PowerPoint includes diagrams for theoretical analysis, and three variations of Recognition-primed decision-making. The additional slides of text placeholders are useful during training sessions to demonstrate problem situations, scenarios, and simulations.

The Recognition primed decision model was initially developed by studying firefighters. Gray A. Klein developed the model of recognition-primed decision-making (RPD) as a process of considering previous situational responses. According to this model, the situational cues are stored as patterns or prototypes for a fast decision making process. The model works well in environments involving factors such as time pressure, high stakes, and imperfect information. The decision-making techniques of firefighters were used to understand how they act quickly based on information available to them.

The key components of the Recognition Primed Decision Model are Experience – Analyze – Implement. These steps are followed through in three variations of RPD described as three levels of decision-making. The complexity of evaluation increases with each level. At level one, the situation is perceived as typical, and the decision is made based on expectancies, cues, goals, or actions. Level 2 involves the diagnosis of the situation, to assess if actions make decision sense. Level three is about the cycle of modifying the actions if necessary. The decision-maker conducts a mental simulation exercise while evaluating actions.

The user can apply this presentation template for difference two scenarios. The first for explaining the process. The second  to apply the process to a decision making situation and recording the steps applied for latter presentation.

The Recognition-primed Decision process PowerPoint Template presents a thematic map illustrating mental stimulation and matching patterns. It gives them insights into how the evaluation process works at level 3 of recognition primed decision making. The three diagram templates have a predefined description of each process in the model. These slides are useful for discussing each approach during the training session presentation. The slide of identifying possible situations lets users add various sample situations. The further slides of training scenario analysis and simulated solutions will allow participants to apply the Recognition Primed decision model and produce results.
